Congratulations! If your other half popped the question recently then you’ll be feeling pretty pleased with yourself right now. He chose you. No more kissing frogs or bad dates required. Phew. Of course, you’ll be thinking about planning a party to show off your sparkling diamond. We love a party here at Bria Hair so we thought we should turn our attentions to creating gorgeous engagement party hair so that you can look forward to celebrating your new relationship status in style.

“Martin proposed to me in a fancy restaurant in Florida. I couldn’t stop crying and hugging him, people cheered and clapped in the restaurant and we spent all night dancing. The next morning, he reminded me that I hadn’t actually said yes yet!!” – Amelia
If you had a sneaky suspicion that he was going to propose, then you were lucky enough to be able to plan your hair and outfit beforehand. Sometimes though, we are caught completely unaware and this can mean we have some serious hair issues to deal with. No one wants to look a mess when you’re finally asked THE question, particularly if he decides to wake you up with breakfast in bed, and he’s down on one knee holding the velvet ring box you’ve been waiting like, forever for. Oh, great and you’ve got a bedhead.

Top Tip: A quick fix for bedhead hair – try a messy up do.
Messy hair can look cute and sexy and it’s super quick to sort out. Run off to the bathroom armed with bobby pins and a hair band and you’ll be looking gorgeous in minutes. Brush all your hair back away from your face, teasing with a comb to add some volume.

Using your fingers, take the front section back, pushing up to add some height and secure in place with bobby pins. Take the rest of your hair and tie it into a ponytail. Separate the ponytail into small sections and slide a bobby pin into one of the sections, halfway down. Twist it upwards creating a kind of curl and secure it tightly into the ponytail. Do this with the other sections and then use your fingers to tease out the curls. Any loose hairs will frame your face and look cute at the same time, hey presto five minute up do!

“Aaron popped the question while we stood on the cliff top. As he bent down and began to fiddle in his pocket I realised what was happening. As he continued to rummage in his pockets a small box fell out and then over the cliff! I freaked out and started screaming, but Aaron was in fits of laughter. He then produced a second box and proposed right there. Afterwards he told me that he’d planned the dummy box to throw me off the scent!” – Cherie

You are probably eager to get the party planning started and why not, you’ve waited for this moment for too long. You’re going to want to dazzle as much as that ring on your finger, so we suggest you opt for serious hair glam – curls, volume and embellishment. Curls never fail to add allure to any outfit so get acquainted with curling irons or heated rollers for your Hollywood glam style waves.

Top Tip: For serious volume when you’re feeling flat try these…
If your hair is naturally flat and you’re desperate to give it some oomph there are some tricks you can try.
- Change your parting. Most people tend to have their hair part where it sits naturally but this encourages it to lie flat. Changing it to the opposite side or a deep side part adds more volume at the crown.
- Back-comb it. We don’t mean ruffing up your hair into tangles here. Using a paddle brush, gently tease the top layers of your hair to add more height and then style.
- Blow dry your hair upside down.
- Use volume building shampoo and root boosting products. We love Tresemme 24 hour Root boosting spray and TIGI Bedhead Fully Loaded Shampoo for fine, flat hair. Go easy on the conditioner, apply just at the ends.
- Add hair extensions. See our huge range available at Briahair.
- Sleep in a bun. Twist up into a bun before bed and in the morning, you’ll have volume and waves in abundance.

Hair embellishments are big this year. Seen on catwalks worldwide. There’s a huge range from clips to bows, hair beads, diamonds and Alice bands. The difficult part is choosing which ones to use in your hair. We like this gorgeous rhinestone hair comb from Light in the Box.com
“When Liam proposed, he borrowed the spare key to my flat from my Mum and decorated it with flowers. I came home late that night and instead of opening the door to a dark flat there was music playing and I heard someone moving about. I thought someone had broken in and stupidly ran off to my Mum’s terrified. She questioned what happened when Liam asked me and I didn’t have a clue what she was on about! Liam was still there waiting for me to come home!” – Serena
So hopefully you have lots of ideas on how to style your hair for your big night. We’d love to see your pics so feel free to share them with us email info@briahair.com or any of our social media pages J. Have a fabulous night and make him, and all your guests realise why he decided to put a ring on it!
