Fancy seeing you here again. For the ladies with sleek, wavy locks, this one is for you! Type two hair is a little more complex; these naturally wavy strands form a loose ‘S’ shape, lying somewhere between straight and curly hair. You get the best of both worlds, as type two hair transmits sheen more than curly hair but less than straight hair. This means it is rarely dry and easily manageable. The only downside — if you can call it that — is that wavy hair is typically more susceptible to frizz. It’s best to keep your fingers out of wavy hair; the more you tousle it, the more frizz you get.
Type 2A hair usually has a fine wave with a thin texture. Although fairly similar to 1C hair, 2A is less oily and has a certain curl pattern that 1C lacks. This type is easy to style and straighten. Compared to the others in its category, 2A hair has the least tendency to frizz, so it is easier to weigh down when you apply enough product.

Type 2B hair has a definite wavy pattern that is more tightly drawn. This hair has a more moderate texture and is resilient to styling, however it is still frizz-central. Women in this category tend to use more gel-based products to keep their hair in check.

Type 2C hair consists of tightly drawn waves, similar to 2B, however the waves are more defined, and they tend to curl around itself to form loose spiral curls. Being the frizziest of the group, this hair has the tendency to bounce up slightly and poof away from the face, but it is perfect for wash and go’s.

Maintenance tips:
Wavy hair needs taming! This doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to be soaked in rich shampoos and styling products; it just needs a little frizz and poof control, that’s all. Products with a high concentration of alcohol will cause your hair to frizz even more. It’s advised to use lighter styling products that contain natural oils as opposed to silicone.
- To enhance your waves, salt-based sprays work best. Use Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray to mist onto damp hair and scrunch to get the best results.
- For expert styling, R+Co Jackpot Styling Creme offers the right amount of staying power and proves to be a versatile product for great control, texture and volume.
- Avoid pomades as they are too sticky, gels are too crunchy, and straightening creams are too heavy.
