Hair Extension Series: Part three

It’s the third and final week of the Hair Extension Summer Series… and it’s over just as quickly as the British summertime! So, now that you’ve gone through all your wigs, and tried out some beach waves with your clip ins, you may be starting to feel yourself growing ever so slightly bored? Fear not, we’ve got your back. In today’s feature we will show you how you can diversify your extensions by adding a pop of colour, and advising you on the best way to keep them looking and feeling healthy, if you do choose to make the change.

Why not try highlights using clip ins or tape extensions? Blonde highlights work amazingly well with beach waves – see Love Islands’ Caroline Flack sport this look effortlessly. However, we would recommend visiting your salon to pull off this look with your extensions. Mixing and matching colours and highlight effects is great, but as with any clip in or tape extension, the texture has to match. Furthermore, throwing in the element of multiple shades makes this a tricky one, but once you have ensured that the colour transition is seamless, you’ve got your first look sorted.

If you want to go for a more drastic look, why not experiment with bold and colourful wigs? You can either purchase pre-dyed wigs, or experiment on your own. The best thing about experimenting with colour on wigs is that you do not have to worry about causing any damage to your natural hair, so you have nothing to lose. Take inspiration from Stefflon Don and Amber Rose, who are no strangers to wearing brightly coloured hair. In Don’s Senseless video, she is seen wearing a bright yellow hair piece, whilst Rose has been papped with lilac locs. Although it may seem a daring move, it is easily reversible if it doesn’t quite work out as imagined!

If you do choose to dye your own hair in the process of colouring your extensions, you need to still ensure that you take care of it. Condition, condition, condition! If you did not get the hint, a good conditioning routine is key to looking after both your dyed natural hair and extensions, especially if they have been in contact with chlorine and/or salt water. Conditioning both your natural hair and extensions will help you to avoid a dry and frizzy texture. Furthermore, if you are washing and conditioning your extensions, be sure to detangle them as well. First and foremost however, as we say in every post, a good quality extension will always be superior to synthetic, making maintenance significantly easier.

And that’s a wrap! We can’t believe the summer series is over, but we hope you have enjoyed every minute of reading. Let us know how you got on, and if you have tried out any of our styles!
