Meet The Stylist: Hollie

Hello  Hollie,

So when did you decide to expand your skills and take up a hair extension course?

About 2 years ago. I love playing around and creating different looks so I decided I can do that with extensions as well. Whether you want short hair or long hair!

What do you enjoy about doing peoples hair extensions?

Well, being able to give them the hairstyle that they have been looking for and seeing the transformation at the end!

What sort of looks can you achieve from using hair extensions?

All sorts, you can use extensions for more thickness, length, added colour, if you fancy a change but don’t want to touch your own hair and also to accessorise to make bigger plaits/braids or hair ups.

From Hollies experience we can see and really feel the love for hairdressing expressed in her answers. If you, like Hollie are dreaming of making you’re passion a reality then don’t stop until you make it happen! And remember hair styling is all about keeping beautiful luscious locks in healthy and good condition. If your hair is thin or lacking in colour or both then why not give extensions a go!? You might end up loving it as much as our stylists do!…

We hope as always that this interview style blog has given you some inspiration to flourish in your hair endeavours be it a career or simply wanting to have the best hair in town. “I think that the most important thing a woman can have- next to talent, of course- is her hairdresser.” ― Joan Crawford

Tune in to see which stylist we meet next…

The Ultimate Hair Type Guide – Kinky Hair

Welcome back to our final instalment of the series. In part 4 we tackle the last hair type and learn the fundamentals of kinky hair. For those with thick, coarse locks, keep reading! Kinky natural hair can be tough (literally) to handle, usually belonging to people of African and/or Caribbean descent. Many women opt for protective styles — such as weave, extensions or braids — to prevent breakage. Kinky hair is laden with misconceptions: contrary to popular belief, although it’s tightly coiled, kinky hair is very fragile by nature. Due to the complex zig-zag shape of the individual hair strand, the sebum oil cannot reach past an inch or two down the hair shaft. Handle these delicate, dazzling locks with care.

The Ultimate Hair Type Guide – Curly Hair

We’re back with another one: all the ladies with spiral curls stand up! There’s no doubt that this hair is a little high maintenance. Type three hair is described as having a tight, springy curl pattern, with the strand usually forming an ‘S’ shape. Although having a tendency to frizz, type three hair has a lot of body and few detangling problems. This hair usually suffers from dryness due to it’s full-bodied texture. Remember the sebum oil from part one? Well, this isn’t heavy enough to reach past the curls of a single strand. Lack of proper care results in dull curls, so it’s best to keep this hair as healthy and happy as you can; one wrong move could leave you with greasy, weighed-down curls.

Latest hair trends you would want to try

As the year draws to an end, we examined some of the biggest hair trends that rocked the beauty scene this season, read on to get inspiration for your year-end looks.

Natural curls

Embrace your natural curls; this season witnessed the popularity of natural, textured curls, the bigger the better. Do not stifle your mane with heavy products instead use a light serum to tame the frizz with your fingers so that you don’t lose your natural coils.

Big and bouncy

Stylists and celebs have welcomed the early-80s craze for big and bouncy hair but with a modern twist. Think of shiny, healthy locks with broken curls (yes, Victoria Secret Angels). To achieve this style, blow dry your hair and curl it with a large-barrel curling tong in opposite directions. If you crave more volume, feel free to pop in some hair extensions, and lastly, finger comb your hair to loosen the curls and give it that sexy undone look.

Scrunchies

Instagram is flooded with influencers bringing back the garish 90s scrunchies.Scrunchies can be paired with anything but we  prefer to keep our outfits fairly simple and neutral to enhance the effect of the colourfully designed accessory.

High shine ponytails

Depict strength and confidence. Amp up your look with a clean high/ low ponytail paired with a red lip to bring out the invincible you. When going for the perfectly dead straight look, straighten your hair and apply a little gel to tame the flyaways and baby hairs.

Retro

Inspired by the 2017 Dolce and Gabbana runway, with a theme of realness, femininity and romanticism. Think of the 60s when hairstyles were voluminous, perfected and elegant. Do not fret if you are in need of some extra volume and backcombing is not your jam, grab a few wefts of hair extension to achieve your desired length and thickness.

The bed head

The run-out-of-bed post-sex hair made a return to the runways this season. The is literally the easiest hairstyle to recreate because we probably don’t need to do anything except play the part, jokes apart, just grab a texturising spray and zhoosh up your tresses to your liking.

Slick back hair

Enough celebs have made appearances with this look to let you know that it is definitely in trend, not to mention the innumerable catwalk looks with slick back wet hair. If ‘sexy’ is what you are going for this party season then pair this hairstyle with a sleek satin dress and I bet you won’t look less than a Bond girl.

All of these trends are easy to achieve, try and see which ones suit you best and don’t forget to let us know how you got on in the comment section below.
