January Hair Journey Series

2017 is here… we’ve made it!

Like so many of us, you probably have plenty of resolutions that you are promising yourself you’re going to keep this year. I promise I’ll go to the gym and be in shape this summer… I promise this year I will stick to my goals… I promise this year to be more adventurous with my style… I promise this year I am going to go for it, nothing will hold me back… Any of these sound familiar?

The great thing about the New Year, is that it doesn’t matter what you did or didn’t do last year. This year the possibilities are endless! You can do what you want! That hairstyle you’ve been dying to try for the last 3 years, that country you’ve always wanted to visit, that job you’ve always wanted to apply for… Go for it!

New Year – New You!

In true BriaHair style we are kicking off the year with a 5-part article series on transformations, we call it the January Hair Journey Series. As some of you may or may not know, we at BriaHair are all about you exploring the different versions of yourself starting with your crown!

So please share and stay tuned… You might inspire  someone!

Let’s kick things off with part one…

Why do we find it so difficult to change our hair?

Change, in general, can be very challenging. Whether that be a change to our diet, a change to where we get our coffee or sandwich, or even changing our hair colour. It’s a daunting, and sweat-inducing task.

We understand that change is good, and sometimes a change to our normal routine is refreshing and long overdue, however some of us still need to continuously motivate ourselves to accept and follow through with change.

Talking about ‘change’ is quite broad, so let’s be more specific. Why is changing our hair so scary? Our hair is an expression of ourselves. Whether it’s the colour, or the length and shape, or the way it frames your face or brings out your eyes; it shows personality and character. So it can be really difficult to imagine ourselves with a different style.

We are faced with the possibility that hair dye – whether done at home or in a salon – could go horribly wrong! The colour could be awful, it could make our hair fall out, we could cut it too short instantly hate it and have to wait for it to grow to do anything about it!

This is perhaps the biggest hurdle to overcome when it comes to change; worrying about the results before we’ve even done anything!

Here are some quick tips that may help you finalise a decision for your hair:

1) Use photo editing websites

Possibly one of the best inventions for researching hairstyles, are online makeover websites, where you upload a clear picture of your face and then see which beauty products and colours suit you. This is PERFECT for deciding the right shade and length for your hair, because you can save the picture on your phone and keep looking at it until you decide if it is, or isn’t for you. You can also show the picture to multiple people and get their opinions. Websites like http://bit.ly/2iPmENe are a god send for big hair decisions!

2) Speak to a hairstylist beforehand

You probably won’t be the first person to have spoken to a hairstylist about your hair choices. Bear in mind that it’s probably best if you build a rapport with this hairstylist beforehand. E.g. they’re the hairdresser that you usually go to, friend of a friend, family member etc.

They will also help you to identify your natural hair colour, which is helpful for those of us who’ve been dying our hair for a while and have forgotten our natural shade Oopsies. With this information they can then identify which shades of brown, blonde, red etc. would suit you based on the tones of your natural hair.

3) Try non-permanent first

It may sound stupid but trying a wig, or hair extensions before going that colour as this will help to boost your confidence. It takes a while to get used to a hair change, so by getting used to it before getting the hair style permanently done you can be sure that there will be a minimal amount of surprises. So you can get used to the feel and look of that hairstyle without actually having it!

Another bonus to using human hair extensions is that you can bleach, dye & perm them. Whatever you had in mind for your natural hair, can be done to the extensions! The best part is that all the worries fly right out the window: if you don’t like the colour or style, you can change it… and you don’t have to worry about damaging your own hair with all those chemicals. Win!

Please find a well-trained hairstylist to install your extensions as a poor installation can damage your hair.

The hair tips don’t end there! Because all this January we are helping you find the right hair change for you. Every week we will be discussing the best and healthiest ways to achieve your hair dreams, whether that’s going from light to dark or vice versa, long to short, going bold, or even wanting to try some semi-permanent hair changes. We’ve got it all!

Join our January Hair Journey Series and tackle hair change with no fear! Until next time stay beautiful, and keep your hair stunning!
