Hello and welcome back to our January Hair Journey Series. If you haven’t already, please check out the little intro to this whole series that we posted last week that tackles the reasons behind us being scared of change.
But now on to the first hair change tip.
How to go from dark to light or light to dark.

Going from one side of the hair colour spectrum to the other is a very brave decision that creates a lot of impact. Going from dark to light takes hours of dying, and bleaching, whereas going from light to dark is similar but a little bit simpler. However, both must be done properly and carefully so as not to create damage to the hair.
1) Finding the right shade!
Firstly, you have to find the shade that would suit you. Blonde is not just blonde, there’s #613 #22 (champagne) and the list goes on. Most of us would like to think that we can pull off any hair colour, style, shape etc. But there is a spectrum of shades, and styles that compliment different skin tones, face shapes, and eye colours. It’s about finding the styles & shades that best compliment you.
Therefore, the best and cheapest way to find the right shade of blonde or brunette is by using Photoshop, and online makeover websites. These tools will allow you to find and adjust the shade of colour & style that you go for. It will also allow you to save it on your phone and show friends and family who can give you their opinion. Then when the time for styling comes you can show it to your hairdresser and they can work their magic.
2) Be Realistic!
Transformations don’t happen overnight. Unfortunately going from dark to light and vice versa takes a lot of time, effort, and money to achieve the perfect shade that you dreamed about.
As seen with Khloe Kardashian’s transformation from brunette to blonde, going gradually is the best option to keeping your hair healthy and also durable for the hair procedures.

Before the dying commences you must make sure that your hair is the healthiest it can be, based on your previous hair-dye endeavours. For example, if you are known for switching up your hair colour every few months, it would probably be in your hair’s best interest to wait a while before going from light to dark or vice versa.
Colouring damaged hair is about much more than just split ends or straw-like strands, it can affect the colour itself and how it is absorbed in the hair. So if you are a serial dyer or addicted to the heat tools, you should perhaps wait until your hair is in better health before beginning with your drastic hair transformation.
3) Caring for the damage!
It is undeniable that your hair will suffer some damage from the dying procedure, so it’s best to be prepared with products that will help mend your hair back to health, and protect your fabulous new hair colour.
Use shampoos that are designed to protect-colour, such as Pantene Expert Age Defy Shampoo, Tresemmé Color Revitalize Shampoo, and L’Oreal Professional Luo Post Light Revealing Shampoo. Or ask your hairstylist for any recommendations.

And don’t forget to use a hair mask no more than once a week to protect and revitalise coloured hair. Our recommendations are Neutrogena’s Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask, Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask, and Aveda’s ‘Blue Malva’ Colour Conditioner. There are also plenty of DIY hair masks you can try, which you can find here http://bit.ly/2hXQJWk .

We’re sure that whatever hair change you decide to do in 2017 will look amazing! And hopefully our tips every week this January will help you to decide what change you want and how to accomplish it whilst keeping your hair healthy.
Remember the same care rules apply to Human Hair Extensions. If you want them to last long, care for them as you would your own hair.
Thank you so much for reading, please share and stay tuned because next week in our January Hair Journey Series we’ll be giving you tips on taking the drastic plunge from long hair to short hair. Until next time stay beautiful, and keep your hair stunning!
