Welcome to part one of the Hair Extension Summer Series!
It’s finally time to jet off to an exotic location, with a Piña Colada in hand, and distant memories of your life back home. With the summer season well underway, it can often be a conflicting time for those who enjoy wearing hair extensions. Sun exposure, travel, and swimming are just some of the challenges your extensions may face over the next coming months. However, it is important to know that these apparent obstacles should not stop you from continuing to keep on trend, and jumping into that pool without fear of a lonesome clip in floating away…
As you would have learned in the Ultimate Hair Type Guide, no hair is the same. Each hair type is susceptible to their own difficulties, especially when you throw in all the elements of summer. However, it is fundamental to understand that regardless of what hair type you identify with, or the extension you choose to wear, that the case generally stands as: the better quality the hair, the more lightweight the extension will be. So, in this first instalment, we will focus on the best lightweight extensions, to ensure your scalp does not feel heavy and overheated in the warmth, whilst discussing their disadvantages.
Clip ins are a common choice of hair extension, due to their affordability and ease. These types of extensions can add volume to those who have little body to their natural hair, whilst also being easy to blend with the texture of straighter hair types. If we are simply judging extensions by how lightweight they are for summer, then clip ins tick all the boxes. Being so incredibly simple to install and remove, users can take full control of how much weight they place on their hair. However, it is just as important to be mindful of the limitations clip ins can bring, particularly when experimenting with summer up dos. This, we will discuss further in next week’s instalment of summer hairstyles for extensions. Similarly, tape extensions are easy to maintain, and just as easy to install. Again, allowing users to have full control of the weight they add/remove.

Sew in weaves are an equally popular choice. Weaves are often used a as protective style to avoid damage from the elements. Nevertheless, again, if you do choose to wear a sew in weave, ensure that the hair you choose is of premium quality for the summer, as you should with any extension type. Go for a Virgin or Remy hair type as opposed to synthetic, because there is nothing worse than a heavy, tight, and itchy sew in, that you just can’t wait to simply pull straight off your head (not recommended!).

Alternatively, opt for a wig, in which allows an even quicker removal. After a long day of styling out a beach wave look in the sun, it is more than straightforward to remove the hairpiece once you are back at home. Not to mention, the ability to change up your look the following day, by choosing another one of your pieces. With such luxury wigs on the market, it is no surprise that they have soared in popularity in recent years.

We hope this blog has given you some helpful tips and information on how to keep a cool head over the next few months. Keep reading for next week’s post on summer hairstyles you can achieve with your extensions.
